Listless Monday, Twisted Tales Edition

I've been wanting to do this list for a while, but kept putting it off!  Now, thanks to some suggestions from the fabulous librarians at yalsa-bk listserv (again), here are some great books with a twist (but not really twisted fairy-tales - they need their own list):

Towels and Ladies

Well, I think I'm about to throw in the towel, because I've heard that fat lady singing. I'm hoping I might last for an hour more, but I'm pretty near to falling asleep while reading.

As a final mini-challenge, I'm telling Kiki of Kiki's Bookcation that I'm a fan of The King's English. I think that is the closest indie bookstore to my home and though I've only been a few times, each experience was fabulous! They bring in my favorite authors and they sell books - what's not to love? I just wish I got to more of those events!

about 11 pm - regular bedtime

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
I was actually really interested in Fablehaven: Keys to the Demon Prison - even if it was very long - it's very fast paced.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I think it's working wonderfully!

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
Having everyone turn off their word verification and listing which mini-challenges were still up for which hours

Only finished 2 (but I read part of two others)

I really loved Fablehaven and The Timekeeper's Moon

I had a hard time reading Bel Canto - probably why I didn't finish it :)

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I'd love to participate again!  As a reader and maybe a part-time cheerleader!

I managed to finish Born to Fly, but am still about half-way done with Bel Canto and Fablehaven.  Probably won't finish either tonight.  It's been fabulous and thanks for all the support!

Updates, Updates, Roly Poly Updates

I'm not entirely certain where that title came from.

Anyway, here I am checking in and also doing another fun mini-challenge, this one from Star Shadow blog about love/friendships.  I have to admit that my all-time favorite used-to-be-just-friends couple is Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe.  

 

Seriously, I've swooned about them forever.  I cried (in the miniseries) when Anne told him she wouldn't marry him.  You just knew they were meant to be together and yet she hadn't figured it out yet!  Love it.

Since there really isn't much of a summary (multiple books and all), here's what Amazon had to say for the complete set:

When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Doesn't do it justice, really.  But, you can check out my reviews of the first two books, Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea.  

On the reading front, I've been switching between three different books for the last four hours.  It definitely helps to keep my interest, but it sometimes gets a bit confusing.  Actually, the plots are all very different, so it isn't too bad.  The books are Bel Canto, Fablehaven: Keys to the Demon Prison, and Born to Fly.  But, with reading three at once, I haven't finished any of them.  Small accomplishments, yes?
